Berkshire Junior Chess Association (BJCA) exists to stimulate and promote junior chess in the County. We organize Saturday afternoon tournaments in various schools throughout the County. These are an excellent introduction to competitive chess. If your child plays chess, whether in a school chess club or not, why not give one a try? Dates and places can be found in the Calendar (the event names begin with "SAE - ..."). Entry forms are available to print off.
We enter various County teams from under 9 to under 18 level. There are leagues for both primary and secondary schools. Berkshire also host a Megafinal of the British Land UK Chess Challenge (the world's largest chess tournament). as well as the Berkshire Junior Congress in the Autumn, and numerous other events.
The Maidenhead Junior Chess Club meets most Saturday mornings during term time at Ridgeway School. Most young players will play in their school chess club, if one exists at their school.
Want to start your own school chess club? Some school clubs are run by teachers, others by parents, and some by both! I don't claim to be an expert, but I used to help run the club at Caversham Primary, and I am always happy to relate how we go about it. Just The more the merrier!
