Under 11 Berks v. Herts Sunday, November 06
Chris Archer-Lock writes:

A very positive start was made to the county season by the Berkshire Under 11 team, who defeated Hertfordshire by 37-23 over three rounds. The team showed great application at the start and built up a strong early position on many boards, which was converted in due course to a 15½ - 4½ lead at the end of the first round. Hertfordshire were a player short on the day, but their strength showed itself particularly at the top, when the second round was tied 10 - 10, with Berkshire managing just a half point on the top 5 boards but compensating for that through greater strength in depth in our team. Although the match was nearly won at that stage, it was very pleasing that the players battled to win the third round outright by 11½ - 8½, including sharing the points evenly on the top 5 boards, followed by continuing good results in the rest of the team.

It was good that all players playing their first match for Berkshire achieved at least one win. Also, well done to Alexis Spyrou, Alper Bakici and Stephen Rowe for their 100% scores. Overall congratulations to the players on an enthusiastic and enjoyable team performance. The next Under 11 get together is at the training event at Ridgeway school on the morning of Saturday 3rd December.
