Chris Archer-Lock writes:
Six intrepid Berkshire juniors took part in the Under 10 and Under 14 age groups of the London Junior Chess Championships in Harrow. Although it was a new event for most, the group made a big impression in a strong competition which involves respresentatives from qualifying tournaments across the country.
Congratulations to James Adair, who was unbeaten and won the Under 14 Minor title with an excellent 5/6, and to Daniel Noel, who ensured that the other minor championship was also won by a Berkshire player with a fine 6½/7 in the Under 10 Minor section in a field of 75 players.
The other four Berkshire players also competed strongly in the Under 10 Major section, their scores being Philip Archer-Lock 5/7, Ryan Chen and Roy Zhang 4/7, Sam Goodwin 3½/7. All scored notable individual victories within these results, and emerged with confidence from the challenge of playing in this large and well run tournament. The Under 8/12/16/18 events follow at the same venue from 28-30 December.
