Under 11 Trial Sunday, October 01
Chris Archer-Lock writes:

In the 2006/07 Under 11 team trial at Aldryngton School Roy Zhang emulated his achievement of last year at Under 9 level by scoring six straight wins in impressive style to take a well earned first place. Daniel Noel (5 / 6) claimed a strong second, ahead of Philip Archer-Lock whom he beat in a play-off. Ryan Chen moved confidently into the Under 11 age group finishing outright fourth with 4½ / 6.

The entry of 29 was up on last year, and the close competition confirmed continuing good prospects for the Berkshire team to have strength in depth. As many as 17 players scored 3 / 6 or more, with a number of players who had not been part of last season's team joining familar faces in achieving 50% or better. There were several closely fought long games which made good use of the 40 minutes available per player.

Thanks to the players and their families, to helpers and the school for an excellent day, which whets the appetite for the season to come.
