The rain poured down relentlessly, putting paid to the usual inter-round continuous footie game. Luckily, the chess took place in a classroom, leaving the hall free for some indoor running around.
For the chess tournament itself, the turnout was just short of a sufficient number for two sections, but the competition was still close, especially in the middle section. The top positions were decided in rounds 4 and 5. Philip Archer-Lock edged out Ryan Chen in round 4, in the last game to finish. They were both to end up sharing second place however as Robert Starley defeated Philip in round 5. With all three winning their final round games, Robert finished with a perfect 6 / 6, and a second SAE trophy to add to the one he won last year at Streatley.
