British Chess Championships
Sunday, July 29
The British Chess Championships in Great Yarmouth were blessed with some of the best weather of the summer, and the sun shone for the Berkshire contingent. Matthew Wadsworth emerged as the joint British Boys under 8 champion as well as achieving an excellent second equal place in the Under 9 championship to boot. In the British Under 11 event, Philip Archer-Lock with 3½, and Daniel Noel with 3 out of 7 both performed very creditably.
The British Under 12 and Under 13 sections saw Berkshire juniors challenging for the prizes, with James Holland and Adrian Archer-Lock respectively each finishing 4th. James Adair continued his run of success by achieving a fine second place in the British Under 14 championship.
